The Zagłębie Steelers Interpromex won for the third time in five games on Saturday, sweeping the season series against the Warsaw Sharks with a 36-14 home victory. The Steelers were led by American running back Kevin Marshall, who piled up more than 250 yards of offense and 3 touchdowns in one of his best games of the season.
Marshall scampered 78 yards for a score midway through the first quarter to put the Steelers out to a 6-0 lead. Neither team would score again until the beginning of the third quarter, when Marshall converted a drive that began after a failed Warsaw onside kick into a 10-yard touchdown run.
Zagłębie made it 22-0 later in the third quarter, when Michał Krzelowski hit Paweł Szepiszczak for a 2-yard touchdown pass. The Sharks finally got on the board at the beginning of the fourth quarter, when Tomasz Ochnio turned a busted play into a 9-yard touchdown run. Marshall then completed his hat trick with a 47-yard touchdown dash.
Warsaw got into double digits with an 18-yard touchdown reception by Mateusz Bednarczuk, but by that point the game was already pretty well out of reach. Konrad Starczewski finished the scoring with a 9-yard touchdown run for the Steelers. The 36 points scored by Zagłębie represented their highest offensive output of the season.
Both teams are done for the season, clear of the relegation zone and short of the playoff positions. The Steelers finished the year with a record of 3-7, good enough for a 6th-place finish in the Topliga. The Sharks finished one spot behind them, with a record of 1-9. Their only win was an important one, however, as it kept them ahead of Kozły Poznań, thereby securing their place in the Topliga for 2016.
Steelers (3-7): Season complete, 6th place
Sharks (1-9): Season complete, 7th place
