Dylan Rauch's 25-yard touchdown reception in the first extra period was the difference in Husaria Szczecin's 18-12 win over the Zagłębie Steelers Interpromex on Saturday in Szczecin. Husaria persevered through the cold and wet conditions to win a league-record 20th consecutive game in all levels of competition, a streak that dates all the way back to 2012.
The Steelers got off to the better start on Saturday, recording two first-quarter interceptions, but they could only manage to push the ball across the goal line once in the first half. Michał Kołek gave Zagłębie an early 6-0 lead with a short touchdown run, but Husaria came back to tie the game at halftime on a 5-yard touchdown run by Michał Szczurowski.
After a scoreless third quarter, an interception set Husaria up in great position to take the lead early in the fourth. Rauch converted the chance to make it 12-6 in favor of Szczecin. The Steelers put together a drive to tie the game, culminating in a Konrad Starczewski touchdown run with three minutes remaining in regulation.
The teams' combined failure on all four conversion attempts left the score at 12-12 as the clock expired, and overtime loomed. Last year's PLFA I champions got the stop they needed on defense before Rauch pulled in a James Williams pass and ran to the end zone for the winning points.
Husaria will next take on the Primacol Białystok Lowlanders, the team they beat by a single point in each of the last two seasons to win the PLFA I championship each year. That game will happen on March 29 in Białystok. The Steelers have a bye and the Easter holiday to regroup before they host the Lowlanders in their home opener on April 11.
